Obituary – Professor Oskar Schindler
PROFESSOR OSKAR SCHINDLER
With deep regret we announce the passing away of Professor Oskar Schindler, a well known phoniatrician, who was the co-founder of the Union of European Phoniatricians (UEP).
Professor Schindler mastered all the classic knowledge of his specialty while keeping abreast with modern scientific and clinical trends until his retirement, a few years ago. His publications are significant particularly in the area of swallowing and swallowing difficulties. He hosted the 29th World Congress of the IALP in Torino, Italy in 2013. Together with his son, Antonio, they managed to put together a well-attended scientific Congress with a wonderful social programme.
Professor Schindler will be remembered by his many students and colleagues, particularly senior members of the IALP, who worked with him endlessly to ensure that the field of human communication disorders together with feeding and swallowing difficulties continues to progress. He managed to identify and fill gaps in knowledge in this domain through scientific research.
Professor Schindler will live forever in our soul. The IALP family forwards condolences to his wife, Bianca, his sons, their partners and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. May he rest in peace.
