Memorial to Sara Eyal
Sara Eyal was a pioneer in the field of Speech and Language Disorders in Israel. She taught and trained thousands of students, established one of the first rehabilitation centers in Ichilov hospital center, and was a role model for the community of clinicians in Israel. Her experience and knowledge in our field was remarkable. She was a very bright diagnostician, with sharp and accurate observation skills. Her students and colleagues adored her for her wisdom, knowledge, generosity, and her deep love for people. Sara was a faculty member of the Department of Communication Disorders at the University of Tel-Aviv Israel, a member of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics for 40 years, and a member of the Child Language Committee for 25 years. Sara was known and loved by many IALP members. She had special personal relationships with many of them. Her close friend, Prof. Lilly Cheng, the former IALP president, described her with the following moving words:
“Sarah Eyal was a trooper, leader, pioneer, trail blazer, mentor and a fine human being. She and her husband Adam welcomed me into their family, their home and their heart. The world is a better place because of Sarahlé. She devoted her whole academic life to the improvement of the quality of life of people. She was admired by many and she brought hope and joy to so many. She had always advocated for the voiceless and for setting an example for others to follow.”
We commend Sara for her achievements. Although we may no longer meet and hear her speech, her voice will remain in our minds and hearts, and her legacy will endure through us.
