In order to assist Member States capture important information about the status of rehabilitation services in their country, the World Health Organization (WHO) is developing a national rehabilitation services assessment tool. During the meeting, discussions centered on the different areas of rehabilitation needs for persons with disability (PWD). Once completed, this Tool will be disseminated all over the world with the purpose of assessing the rehabilitation needs of the world.
In addition to providing valuable information to the country, the data collected through the tool can be used to develop country profiles for rehabilitation that can inform service providers and other rehabilitation stakeholders. Importantly, the tool will assist with both the development, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of rehabilitation services. In the development of this tool the input of the various rehabilitation professional organizations is imperative. Two weeks ago, a draft was sent to the participating organizations to solicit input and Dr. Cheng provided input on the behalf of IALP.
